About the Role

A Camp Counsellor, is someone responsible for the well-being and safety of the children at camp. Their duties include taking campers to their classes and supervising them during the rehearsal. As well as coordinating activities for the campers during lunch and break. General supervising campers to make sure they are safe and happy. We prefer that counselors work the whole ten weeks of camp, if possible. Counselors will assist the Production Team with the day-to-day camp activities and rehearsals. Counselors may also be asked to help build sets and help with costumes. Daily maintenance and cleanup of the camp is also part of the counselor duties.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • You must be a high school graduate

  • Previous experience as a camp counselor or educator

  • Background in theater

  • Seeking to study theater or education in college

  • Interest in education


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising, and participating in camp programming activities with campers of different ages

  • Participating in training workshops held prior to camp sessions 

  • Working co-operatively with other Counsellors and teachers to ensure campers are safe, while maintaining adequate health and hygiene measures 

  • Building relationships with all campers by showing compassion, empathy and understanding

  • Taking roll call at the beginning and end of activities 

  • Providing positive feedback for parents

There are many valuable opportunities to create with MTC throughout our season. Whether you are a professional trying to give back to community theater roots or a young artist trying to make your way into a career in production, design, or education.

During a typical season we produce four youth musicals, one young adult musical, one all ages musical, one adults only musical/cabaret and a performing arts day camp with five overlapping sessions resulting in five youth musicals across nine weeks in the summer. All of these productions need Directors, Choreographers, Vocal Directors, Tech Directors, Costume Designers, Stage Managers, front of house positions and more.
