Below is the Director's Welcome Letter and Audition Info.

 

Hello Everyone!

My name is Mr. Will, and I am beyond excited to be your director for Descendants: The Musical this summer at MTC. Please read the following very carefully, as it contains a lot of important information for auditions and the show itself.

• This show is a BEAST (pun intended). It is a high-energy show with hip-hop choreo, complex vocals, and larger-than-life characters! Because of this, we want to hit the ground running when we come into camp on the first day. To mount this production in the 7 days we have, we’re going to do things a bit outside of the box

• Due to the truncated nature of our session, we will NOT be doing a typical read-thru the first day of camp. Therefore, we ask that all of our campers come in to their first day having already read the script and listened to the music. Having the cast be familiar with the material will allow us a little more ease of scheduling when teaching the show! We also encourage our campers, if you feel confident in your vocal part (SATB), to listen to some harmony tracks Ms. Aurelia has started to prepare for our songs as well. A digital copy of the script, the vocal tracks, and Ms. Aurelia’s part tracks can be found in the Google Drive folder linked in the following paragraph.

• AUDITION INFO! - Auditions will take place on Saturday, August 8th (10:00 am - 1:00 pm) and Sunday, August 9th (1:30 pm - 4:30 pm) at First Methodist Church. The Google Drive link HERE has the following audition materials for everyone to utilize:

  • Audition sign-up sheet with time slots

  • List of audition songs (Pick just one, please) & materials for each song (Sheet Music, Vocal Track, Instrumental Track)

  • Audition Sides (Pick one for the character you’d most like to be considered for.)

  • Audition form for every camper to fill out and hand in at auditions

  • Vocal Part Google Form (This will help us greatly on the first day when we split folks up for harmonies).

• Please note that even if you do not sign up for a vocal audition, we are requiring everyone to attend one of the two audition dates for the dance audition. We will be posting a video of the combination for dance auditions in the drive as well and encourage you to watch and become familiar with the movement. That way, if you have any specific questions during auditions, we can help you out!

 

• If a camper is not able to attend either of the audition dates and is interested in auditioning for a lead role, we ask that they submit a virtual self-tape. Please reach out to Mr. Will (williamreidperformer@gmail.com) for further instructions if submitting a self-tape.

• Jay/Carlos - Goal, mm. 22-53 (Note: Please follow Jay and Carlos’ vocal lines. Don’t worry about anyone else!)

• Maleficent - Evil Like Me, mm. 2-23

• Grimhilde/Jafar/Cruella DeVil - Rotten to the Core (Parents’ Revenge), mm. 24-56 (Note: Please follow Maleficent’s line and include Cruella’s rhythmic section from mm. 41-46)

• Ben - Did I Mention, mm. 6-40

• Audrey/Chad - Ways to Be Wicked, mm. 12-35 (Note: Please sing both Audrey and Chad’s lines)

• All Other Roles - Break This Down, mm. 34-57​
