About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and organized Assistant Director to join our community theater company for an upcoming production. This is a stipend position ideal for individuals seeking experience in theater production and Technical Direction. The role is perfect for students or early-career professionals looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and creative environment. We are also planning to call on this individual to Technical Direct if this ATD position is well managed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • You must be a high school graduate

  • Background in theater, film, or television production

  • Degree in theatrical field or equivalent experience

  • Experience as a technician or similar role

  • A growing knowledge of lighting, sound, set design, and special effects

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

  • Strong problem-solving skills


Key Responsibilities:

  • Presence at all tech week rehearsals and performances

  • In charge of checking through the pre-show technical checklist

  • Assist the Technical Director in the coordination of all aspects of the production

  • Be on headset during the show helping the operators execute on cues 

  • Ensure that all technical elements of the production are executed safely and to the highest standards

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise

  • Maintain and manage the technical equipment and resources of the organization

  • Ensure smooth communication among all members of the tech crew.

  • Take notes on any technical errors or mistakes to be fixed for the next performance.

About the Company

There are many valuable opportunities to create with MTC throughout our season. Whether you are a professional trying to give back to community theater roots or a young artist trying to make your way into a career in production, design, or education.

During a typical season we produce four youth musicals, one young adult musical, one all ages musical, one adults only musical/cabaret and a performing arts day camp with five overlapping sessions resulting in five youth musicals across nine weeks in the summer. All of these productions need Directors, Choreographers, Vocal Directors, Tech Directors, Costume Designers, Stage Managers, front of house positions and more.
